UFC 227 (Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt 2) is an upcoming event in the MMA championship. It will be held on August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, home to many sports teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers. The main title fight for this UFC card will be the rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt, which is already gaining quite the attention from fans.
Featuring 13 fights in different weight classes, the event promises numerous memorable moments. Besides the main bout between Dillashaw and Garbrandt, the most exciting matches at the UFC 227 will be fought between Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo (flyweight), Kang Kyung-Ho and Ricardo Ramos (bantamweight), Alexander Gustafsson and Volkan Oezdemir (light heavyweight) and the match between Cub Swanson and Renato Moicano in the featherweight class.
Back in 2017, TJ Dillashaw met with former Team Alpha Male teammate Cody Garbrandt at the UFC 217, when he won with a knockout in the second round to retain his UFC Bantamweight Championship. He also won the Performance of the Night bonus for the same fight and agreed on a rematch with Garbrandt that will take place on August 4.
The fight between fan favourite Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo is also expected to draw a lot of interest. Johnson is one of the best MMA fighters of all time and will be looking to defend his UFC Flyweight title against Cejudo in a rematch between the two, after winning their previous bout at the UFC 197 in 2016.
Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt
The main bout and UFC Bantamweight title fight will take place between Americans TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. Dillashaw is the current title holder and will try to defend his title against a tough opponent. Gardbrand is a former UFC Bantamweight champion himself, having defeated Dominick Cruz (his first loss in 10 years) at the UFC 207. However, he lost the title to Dillashaw in his first title defence and will be looking to avenge that loss.
As the card’s main event, the Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt fight is expected to be pretty close, with neither of the fighters being a clear favourite with bookies. Experts give a slight nod to Dillashaw, but Garbrandt is not far behind.
At the moment, bookies are favouring TJ Dillashaw to successfully defend his title, giving him unattractive odds of 20/27. Cody Garbrandt has odds of 20/21 which are not too enticing as well, although they look better than Dillashaw’s. As you can see, neither of the fighters is a clear favourite. Garbrandt’s odds may bring you a few quid more, so if you think that he won’t lose to Dillashaw for the second time in a row, back him up.
Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo
The match between Johnson and Cejudo is just as heavily anticipated as the main bout. Johnson can be called a legend in the UFC Flyweight class– he holds several records including the one for most takedowns in flyweight history and is the only fighter with more than 10 takedowns in 3 different matches. He is the current flyweight champion and will be looking to defend his title against Cejudo in a rematch that will surely be exciting.
The first fight ended with a TKO in the first round, when Cejudo couldn’t defend himself from Johnson’s blistering attacks. However, this time the fight may not be so one-sided. The former professional wrestler turned MMA fighter has an impressive record in the UFC, winning 12 times in 14 fights. He also has a Performance of the Night award behind his name and will certainly be looking to avenge the previous loss to Johnson.
When it comes to the bookies, Demetrious Johnson is the clear favourite. He’s being given odds of 4/27 at MansionBet, Fun88, Letou, SportNation, and RedZoneSports, which surely won’t excite punters. On the other hand, Cejudo’s being given odds of 7/2 which sound far more attractive for punters. Of course, there’s an obvious difference between the two, but Cejudo shouldn’t be written off so soon. He has certainly learned something from their first fight and will be looking to use that knowledge to his own advantage in order to take down the undisputed UFC Flyweight champion.
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Volkan Oezdemir
The fight between Gustafsson and Oezdemir will be pretty interesting to watch, seeing how they’re ranked #1 and #2 on the UFC Light Heavyweight ranking list. Boasting a record of 18 wins in 22 matches, Gustafsson is the best fighter in the light heavyweight division. His memorable fight with Jon Jones at the UFC 165 has won several Fight of the Year awards. The Swede lost that match but was praised by the then-champion Jones for giving him “the toughest fight of his career”.
On the other side of the octagon, Volkan Oezdemir will be looking to bring down Gustafsson. With a Performance of the Night aware bonus under his belt, Oezdemir is a fierce fighter who’s not going to let Gustafsson get the better off him.
Bookmakers are favouring Gustafsson as the winner of the bout, giving him odds of 2/7 (Letou, Fun88, RedZoneSports, SportNation, MansionBet). Oezdemir has been given odds of 9/4 which are much better looking and can bring you in a nice return for a reasonable bet. So, if you were planning on putting your money on either of these fighters and want to risk it, Oezdemir is the obvious choice.
Cub Swanson vs. Renato Moicano
Swanson and Moicano are fighters in the featherweight division who will be looking to put another win under their belt on August 4. Swanson is currently ranked #4 on the UFC featherweight rankings, while Moicano is ranked #9. The fight between them is generating a lot of interest from the public and is expected to be pretty close.
Swanson was previously fighting in the World Extreme Cagefighting series before joining the MMA. He has 25 wins in 34 matches and is an unrelenting fighter who can take on anyone. Moicano is a Brazilian MMA fighter who has made a name for himself by fighting all over Brazil before he got to the MMA. He has a record of 12 wins in 14 fights (1 loss and 1 draw) and will be looking to gain the upper hand on Cub Swanson and climb up the UFC featherweight rankings.
A bit surprisingly, Moicano is a heavy favourite for the bout with odds of 4/21 at Fun88, Letou, RedZoneSports, SportNation, and MansionBet. Now too attractive, right? On the other hand, Cub Swanson is being given odds of 3/1 which are much more enticing. Place a reasonable bet on the American and you could be looking at thousands in return. Don’t disregard the fact that Swanson is currently ranked higher on the UFC featherweight rankings – there’s certainly a reason for it.
What About the Other Fights?
Thanks to the 13 fights on the card, UFC 227 will certainly have something in store for everyone, especially punters. All the matches are featured at the aforementioned bookies who offer attractive odds in the Full-Time Winner market.
If you’re a fan of the bantamweight category, take a look at the Ramos vs. Kyung-Ho bout. The odds for the South Korean stand at 9/5 (Letou, SportNation, RedZoneSports, MansionBet, Fun88), while Ramos is the favourite with 10/27. If these odds look unattractive to you, you can pick another fight – the one between Brett Johns and Pedro Munhoz should be interesting enough.
Johns is the underdog in the fight with odds of 37/20 which look great if you ask us. On the other hand, Munhoz is the favourite at 20/57, but his odds won’t bring you a lot of money in return for your bet. Backing up the Welsh fighter is the more reasonable choice, considering that he only has one loss in his MMA career, and that one came by a decision.
