Golf - US Open OddsThe U.S. Open is an annual national championship of golf in the United States of America. The tournament is on the official schedule of the PGA and European Tour and is the second tournament of the 4 annual major golf tournaments. The U.S. Open is organized by the USGA and scheduled for mid-June, with the final round scheduled for Father’s Day. The 2018 edition will be held at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York.

The tournament is played on a variety of courses. Scoring is pretty difficult and the premium is placed on accurate driving. The winner of the U.S. Open is the player with the lowest number of strokes as the tournament is played on 72 holes of stroke. The filed is 156 players which can book a spot though qualification or by being exempt.

Half of the field is made up of players who are exempt from qualifying, including the winner of the last U.S. Senior Open, the winner of the Amateur Championship, winners of the U.S. Open of the last 10 years, winners of the last 3 Players Championships and special exemptions by the USGA.

The prize for winning the Open was $12 million in 2017, with the winner’s share standing at $2.16. Winning the tournament means automatic entry into the following 3 majors and of course, makes the winner a household name. The top 10 players from this year’s U.S. Open are exempt from qualifying for next year, while the top 4 are invited to the following season’s Masters.

Brooks Koepka is the defending champion after winning last year’s U.S. Open. He is one of the favorites this year as well, although the competition is pretty hard, so he’s not in the top half of the list.
