If you haven’t been watching HBO’s incredibly successful TV show Game of Thrones, you have probably been living under a rock. The TV show inspired by George R. R. Martin’s impressive and equally successful series of books has been the biggest thing on TV for years. Breaking many viewing records, the show will end next year with its 8th and final season, which will probably break the internet as soon as the first episode is released.
There’s definitely plenty to like about Game of Thrones. Set in the fictional world of Westeros, it’s a story about the cunning and dangerous game of thrones, in which 5 kings fight to become the new ruler. There’s no lack of intrigue in the series – Martin has written a masterpiece with more than 10 important characters, juggling them perfectly. He doesn’t have much love for favourite characters, however – (PROBABLY A SPOILER ALERT) since Ned Stark’s unjust demise which set off the major event, many important characters shared his fate, sparking an outrage among fans. Still, Martin is not concerned about the rage, instead focusing on the story he’s got in his mind like the legendary writer he is.
Fans have not grown tired of the show even after 7 seasons. Whenever a new season comes out, Game of Thrones immediately becomes the most watched thing on TV. Fans are impatient to watch new episodes and see their favourite characters and the mysterious world of Westeros. The dragons, undead, wildlings, Black Watch, Children of the Forest, and the war, blood, love, and intrigue in the series has made it one of the most successful shows of all time and we have no reason to doubt that the last season will end on a high note.
With the majority of questions answered, the biggest of them all is still up in the air – who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the series. The internet is filled with theories about who’ll rule Westeros at the end of Season 8 and who the rightful heir is. Should it be John Snow or Daenerys Targaryen? Maybe Bran Stark? The possibilities are endless, with every fan having a different theory they support.
Bran Stark – The True King of Westeros?
Bran Stark’s journey hasn’t been easy at all. Crippled by Jamie Lannister at the beginning of the show, he has managed to become a seer, setting out on a quest to find the Three-Eyed Raven who can teach him how to use his clairvoyant gifts. No one paid Bran’s storyline much attention until the last two seasons when it became clear that he can see into the past and probably the future as well. He may be Westeros’ only chance to defeat the Night King, seeing how Daenerys’ dragons (probably) failed.
At the moment, bookies are giving Bran Stark the biggest chances of ruling Westeros at the end of the show. He’s being given odds of 4/5 at EnergyBet and LV BET, and 5/6 at MansionBet, making him a surprising frontrunner instead of Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen.
The show will surely reveal a lot about Bran Stark in the final season, which may even be centered around him. The boy is in dire need of assistance, but with Samwell Tarly at his side, he might become the most powerful person in Westeros. It remains to be seen if Bran could defeat the Night King with the help of the shy Maester.
Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen – Rightful Heirs to The Throne?
Everyone’s favourite characters on the show are surprisingly not on the top of the list of probable Westeros rulers. After the shocking revelations in last season’s finale, there’s no telling what the future holds for both characters. At the moment, bookies are putting them right behind Bran Stark as rulers of Westeros at the end of the final episode.
Daenerys Targaryen are being given odds of 41/10 to rule Westeros by the end of the show at LV BET and EnergyBet. Things are a bit different at MansionBet – the hugely popular bookmaker favours Daenerys as the ruler on the Iron Throne, giving her odds of 9/1 and giving Jon Snow odds of 5/1.
Interestingly enough, Daenerys and Jon are not placed directly behind Bran Stark at MansionBet. The popular bookie gives two other options better chances than Game of Thrones’ favourite duo. The ‘Any Children of Jon Snow’ and ‘Any Children Of Daenerys Targaryen’ options are being given odds of 11/4 to rule Westeros at the end of season 8, which is a pretty interesting option if you ask us. Considering Martin’s track record of killing off popular characters, this might not be a fluke.
Plus, this option isn’t available at the other bookies, so it might be worth giving a shot.
Can Cersei Retain the Throne?
The dangerous and cunning Cersei Lannister has managed to beat all Game of Thrones betting odds and stay on the Iron Throne much to everyone’s dismay. She’s quite intelligent and fierce and protected by the mysterious, undead and incredibly powerful Ser Gregor Clegane who won’t let anyone near the queen.
Cersei has managed to convince everyone she’ll ally with her enemies to fight off the threat of the White Walkers, only to reveal her true intentions in the final episode. Cersei Lannister’s only desire is to sit on the throne – she will do anything for it, making her one of the mot dangerous people in Westeros.
Bookies are giving the current queen odds of 18/1 (MansionBet) and 14/1 (EnergyBet, LV BET) to retain the throne and rule Westeros by the end of the series. This puts her high on the list, although lagging behind Bran, Jon, and Daenerys. Fans of the show won’t be pleased with such high odds but considering her readiness to do anything she can to retain the throne, it might not be far from the truth.
Sansa Stark – Queen of Westeros?
The beloved character of Sansa Stark has gone through a lot of hardships since her father Ned Stark was murdered. After years of suffering, she finally proved her mettle when she dissected Littlefinger’s plot and allowed her sister to get revenge on him. No one really liked the guy, so we guess it was a long time coming. At the same time, that powerful move raised Sansa’s chances of becoming the new queen of Westeros, and possibly even the North.
Of course, a lot of things need to happen first before she can be crowned Queen, but considering the popularity of the character (brought to life by the incredible Sophie Turner), the idea isn’t so far-fetched. At the moment, Sansa Stark is tied with Cersei Lannister in the Who Will Rule Westeros market at Betboro – the current and possible future queen are available at 4/1. This puts Sansa into quite an exclusive group of favourites for the throne and clearly separates her from the pack lurking from below.
If you think that Sansa Stark deserves to be Queen and she ends up claiming the throne, the odds aren’t half-bad. Place a reasonable bet on her and you may be smiling by the end of the last Game of Thrones episode.
Gendry – Will a Bastard Rule Westeros?
If you’ve totally forgotten everything about Gendry, let us refresh your memory. Gendry is an apprentice blacksmith from King’s Landing with the blood of King Robert flowing through his veins – he’s an unacknowledged bastard of Robert Baratheon. You may remember him as the boy who was in Arya’s group after escaping King’s Landing and the boy who was almost sacrificed by the red priestess Melisandre who needed a drop of royal blood.
Now, Gendry’s claims for the throne are a bit shaky. Although a bastard of Robert Baratheon, he is unacknowledged and not even interested in the throne – all he wants to do is forge blades. Knowing this, his chances of sitting on the throne at the end of the final episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones TV show aren’t exactly great, but they aren’t that bad at all.
Betboro is giving Gendry odds of 7/1 which puts him right after Arya Stark and in front of a host of characters that include Varys and Ser Davos. Granted, those odds are pretty high to consider Gendry a favourite, but in George R.R. Martin’s crazy universe no one knows what happens next.
Bookies have decided to follow the show’s surprising twists and turns by adding surprising picks among the favourites for the Iron Throne. At this moment, the Night King and everyone’s favourite imp Tyrion Lannister have almost equal odds of sitting on the throne at the end of the series.
LV BET and EnergyBet have them both at 37/5, while over at MansionBet, the Night King is being given odds of 11/1 and Tyrion stands at 9/1. So, if you think that the show’s main antagonist will destroy Westeros and sit on the Iron Throne to rule in darkness or you think that Tyrion will use his brilliant mind to seize the throne, you can place a bet on their pretty enticing odds and maybe win big in return.
