The UEFA Europa League, formerly known as the UEFA Cup, is a football competition organized by the highest governing body for European football, UEFA. It is the most massive European club competition which involves a total of 48 clubs in the group stage. Most of the teams qualify through their positions in their respective leagues, while some enter the league through qualifications.
The competition was found in 1971 and rebranded in 2009. In its history, it has been won by 28 different teams, with Spanish side Sevilla being the most successful club with 5 titles. Last year’s UEFA League was won by Atletico Madrid, who defeated Marseille in the final, continuing the dominance of Spanish clubs in the competition (6 titles in the past 10 seasons).
This year, the Europa League will be pretty interesting to watch as it features some heavy hitters such as Arsenal and Chelsea who are the main favourites for the trophy as well.
The first group of the Europe League features Bayer Leverkusen, Zurich, Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad and AEK Larnaca. Obviously, Die Werkself is the favourite to win the group – bookies are giving the German team odds of 4/11 (MansionBet, Letou, Fun88) or 3/10 (MintBet, Black Type). The Germans will have a tough task on the first matchday – they are visiting the second favourite for the group Ludogorets Razgrad in a match that will surely be exciting to watch.
Bayer is still the favourite in this match (21/20 at MansionBet, 23/20 at MintBet and Black Type, 11/10 at Fun88 and Letou), but Ludogorets isn’t lagging too far behind. All these bookies also offer different types of bets for this match and the others, so if you’re planning to wager, choose your options carefully.
Group B should be pretty interesting as it features 3 teams that are quite close in terms of quality. German team RB Leipzig who got to the quarter-finals last year are the favourites with odds of 5/7 (Letou, Fun88, MansionBet) and 3/4 (Black Type, MintBet) ahead of Salzburg, Celtic, and the outsiders Rosenborg.
The first matchday will put the leading favourites Leipzig and Salzburg against each other. Leipzig is the favourite in the full-time winner market with odds of 20/21 at Letou (5/2 for Salzburg, 13/5 for a draw). If you want to try your hand at some of the other markets, Letou has more than 50 in its offer including goals specials which can bring you a nice sum of money in return for a reasonable bet.
Group C features the 2007-08 UEFA Cup winner Zenit St. Petersburg, French team Bordeaux, Slavia Prague, and Copenhagen. The Russian side is the best team in this group and the favourite to win it, with odds of 5/6 at Letou, Fun88, and MansionBet, and 3/4 at Black Type and MintBet. These odds are not bad from a punters point of view, so you may think about including Zenit as an outright winner of Group C on your slip.
The match between Slavia Prague and Bordeaux on the first matchday should be pretty close. The Czech team is the surprising favourite with odds of 5/4 at Fun88, MansionBet, and Letou, and 13/10 at Black Type and MintBet. Bordeaux is a tricky team, though, and the higher odds (21/10 at MansionBet) may attract experienced punters to place a bet on them.
Things are pretty heated up in Group D, where Turkish team Fenerbahce is in a dead race for the first spot with Belgian side Anderlecht. Fener is a slight favourite – MansionBet, Fun88, and Letou are giving it odds of 13/10, while MintBet and Black Type back Fenerbahce up with odds of 5/4.
Dinamo Zagreb is patiently waiting for its chance to slay the Turkish giant, and it will have the first one on September 20. The Croatian team is the favourite in this match with odds of 29/20 at Letou, MansionBet, and Fun88, and 6/4 at Black Type and MintBet. If they manage to win, the group will instantly become much more interesting.
The situation in Group E is clear – English juggernaut Arsenal is the obvious favourite and will most likely win the group. This also means that the odds for Unai Emery’s side are pretty unattractive – the London outfit is given odds of 4/11 at Letou, MansionBet, and Fun88, and 1/4 at Black Type and MintBet. They are also one of the two major favourites to win the 18-19 UEFA Europa League, sitting just behind their rivals Chelsea.
The other favourite in the group, Sporting Lisbon, is starting their campaign against the relatively unknown FK Qarabag. Due to Sporting’s low odds in the 1X2 market, we suggest checking out the other markets for this match – you can bet all the bookies have more than enough to satisfy your needs.
Group F will be exciting to watch as it pairs famous clubs such as AC Milan and Olympiacos with the tricky Real Betis and outsider FK Dudelange. AC Milan is the favourite to win the group (2/3 at Fun88, MansionBet, and Letou; 4/6 at Black Type and MintBet) just in front of Real Betis (21/10 at MansionBet, Letou, and Fun88; 2/1 at MintBet and Black Type). The battle for the top spot will be between these two teams, with Olympiacos lurking in the shadows.
The Greek team will have its first chance of upsetting the expected order of things in Group F on the first matchday when they host Real Betis. They are the favourites in most markets for this match although only slightly (31/20 vs. 8/5 at Fun88 and Letou; 6/4 vs. 8/5 at Black Type, MintBet, and MansionBet).
Villareal, Rapid Vienna, Rangers, and Spartak Moscow will test their mettle in Group G. The Spanish team is the favourite with odds of 5/8 at Fun88, Letou, and MansionBet, and 4/6 at MintBet and Black Type. Rangers and Rapid Vienna have equal odds at the bottom part of the list, while Spartak Moscow is the biggest threat to Villareal.
The first matchday will put the favourites against the outsiders, although the odds for Rapid Vienna and Spartak Moscow are quite close. Letou favours the Austrian team, but only slightly (6/4 vs. 17/10). If these odds are a bit too close for your comfort, we suggest trying your hand in other markets.
Rome-based club Lazio spearheads the list of favourites in Group H with odds of 7/5 at MansionBet, MintBet, Fun88, Black Type, and Letou. Marseille follows them closely with odds of 7/4, while Eintracht Frankfurt and Apollon Limassol are the outsiders in the group.
The French side will open their Europa League campaign against Eintracht Frankfurt at home on September 20. They are the favourites with odds of 4/5 compared to Frankfurt’s 10/3 at Black Type. If you’d like to bet in another market, Fun88 ha more than 60 in store for all opening matches of this season’s UEFA Europa League.
Turkish juggernaut Besiktas are the favourites to win group I – they are given odds of 11/10 at Letou, Fun88, and MansionBet and evens odds at MintBet and Black Type. Their biggest challenger is Belgian side Genk, while Malmo and Sarpsborg 08 round out the group as outsiders.
Sarpsborg is a lesser-known Norwegian football club who’s a major outsider in the competition. If you share the same opinion as most bookies that they don’t stand any chance of even defeating one opponent, we suggest betting in goal markets for their matches.
Five-time champion Sevilla was drawn in Group J with the likes of Krasnodar FC, Standard Liege, and Akhisar Belediyespor. Of course, the Spanish team is a heavy favourite to win the group – MansionBet, Letou, and Fun88 give them odds of 4/9, while Black Type and MintBet have Sevilla at 2/5.
The match between Akhisar and Krasnodar on the first matchday should be pretty exciting – Fun88 is giving both teams similar odds to win (8/5 vs. 33/20). The popular bookie has more than 50 markets you can place your bets on for this and other matches – you can wager on total goals, handicaps, double chance, draw no bet, etc. Make sure to check all markets before placing your bet.
Group K is among the most interesting group in this year’s Europa League. Except for Jablonec who are outsiders, the other 3 teams (Dynamo Kiev, FC Astana, Stade Rennes) are close in terms of quality. The Ukrainian team is the bookie’s favourite with odds of 6/5 (MintBet, Black Type) and 13/10 (Letou, Fun88, MansionBet).
Stade Rennes is the second favourite to win the group. Both the French side and Dinamo Kiev play the outsiders in the group on the first matchday, so their odds aren’t really enticing. Most bookies offer a variety of markets for these matches, though, so make sure to give them a look if you’re planning to bet on Group K.
Former English champion Chelsea is a heavy favourite to win the last group in this year’s Europa League and a favourite to win the tournament as well. When it comes to Group L, MansionBet, Letou, and Fun88 give Chelsea odds of 4/27, while Black Type and MintBet have the English side at 1/8. The other teams (PAOK, BATE Borisov, and MOL Vidi FC) don’t really stand a big chance of winning Group L.
Chelsea is the absolute favourite for their opening match against PAOK – due to the low odds in the full-time winner market, we suggest giving the other markets a look – Letou has a total of 65.
